Air Fry Saskatoon Berry Turnovers
(8 servings)
Prep Time: 20-25 minutes
Cook Time: 12-15 minutes
Total Time: 32-40 minutes
What you’ll need
- 2 cups fresh or frozen saskatoon berries (or blueberries)
- ¼ cup Maple syrup
- Juice of 1 medium navel orange
- 1 tablespoon orange zest
- 2 teaspoons cornstarch
- 1 package butter puff pastry, defrosted according to package instructions
- 1 egg
- cane sugar or icing sugar, for sprinkling
Cooking Instructions
- Add the berries, maple syrup, orange juice and zest to a pot over medium heat. Cook, stirring often until the berries soften, about 10-15 minutes.
- Dissolve cornstarch into 1 tablespoon of water, then pour into the berry mixture.
- Remove pot from heat, stirring the mixture thickens like jam.
- Roll out and cut the butter puff pastry into 4-6 equal size squares (depending on pastry length). Spoon the berry filling into the centers of each square.
- Fold the pastry over to form a triangle, and crimp the edges together tightly with a fork.
- Whisk the egg with 1 tablespoon of water, and brush the egg wash onto the tops of the pastry.
- Line air fry basket with parchment paper, and lightly spray with cooking oil. Transfer the pastries into the basket, and sprinkle with sugar.
- Air fry in the Whirlpool® 7-in-1 Air Fry Oven at 425℉ for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown.
- Leave for an additional 2-3 minutes (but keep an eye on them!) if you prefer a deeper golden colour.
- Dust some icing sugar over top of your final product.
